Time for a beating!

Here is a small preview of my journal of summer (slave labour) i really enjoyed making this book, and doing the small but not very detailed illustrations really helped me remember exactly what i did with my summer ... spent it in a ditch, but in all seriousness, how much fun it was - words really cant describe!  Thank you to Auldyn Construction for a great summer, and my overdraft money!

Week 4,5,6 and so on!

Let me explain, now I have started keeping a proper journal of my adventure through the summer of work ... I decided im just going to upload all of my summer pictures from the building site. So enjoy these images, and i will take a few scans from my journal for you too see what I have been doing.

Week 3 - Getting rid of piles!

So we start week 3 of summer and im back on site and handed a Stihl-saw, then pointed in the direction of Phase2 of the site.  After assisting with a staff to show the 360 digger driver Glenn the correct dig level the piles were finally on show and ready too be cut down.  Once again the staff was needed too mark out the correct cut level - this is a long but money saving process - if it is done wrong it could cost a lot of money!  Below are some pictures of the process, from the digging to the cutting!

So from photo 1 - 4 :

1. The stihl-saw I was allowed to use!
2. One of several hundred piles I had too cut down.
3. Just one of the blocks piles which had been cut down and filled with sand ready for the proofing!
4. The proofing cut to the correct sizes and fitted ready for concrete.

Week 2 - Building a pretty hill

The Isle of Man has the oldest parliament in the world - and along with that come old traditions ... the Tynwald Hill!  From what I can grasp ... basically once a year the Manx parliment gather on a hill which is made of several grass steps and chill (ok no, they talk and sort out a few bits and pieces which needs sorting)
So me and a bloke called Steve ended up drawing the short straw and building a replica Tynwald hill ... below i have an image of the real Tynwald hill
(the one the politicians chill on) and further down from that is the hill myself and steve built in around 3 days!
Im feeling kind ... above is an image of the Tynwald hill being fully used and chilled upon by the politicians ... fantastic!

Week 1 - Digging and Filling!

Now - working on a building site with quick witted men with hairy bums and more milk for tea than a dairy isn't always going to be fun!  And im not going too lie - I can hardly whip out a digital camera every 30 minutes for a new photo to show what im doing with my summer!  Here im working hard - rain, shine, snow and hell ... gail force winds, were working, building these new houses for the lovely people of Ramsey! Below are a few pictures (that I could get) of what I was working on in my first week - drainage, a mini Tynwald Hill ... and more drainage!

Well thats all I could manage to get pictures of ... basically what was happening here is that the drain covers were loose in the grass so we had to dig down 50mm into the ground and fill an 800x800mm square of concrete to secure the covers and lips. fun.
